Ok, so the floors were finished last week (post on that coming too) and we moved our stuff into the house on Saturday so technically we're in - but there's crap everywhere and I wouldn't exactly call us "in". I feel like I'm living in an episode of Hoarders - there's boxes and bags everywhere you look but I have no idea where anything is.
Don't believe me? Here's our guest bedroom. That's our old bed - we'll get to the bed ordeal in a second.
And here's the third bedroom we'll be using as an office
Yes we packed crap in garbage bags. Just me Angelina ok?? |
I know you're jealous right?? I'm kind of a neat-nick, so all this mess is starting to get to my head and make me a leeeetle insane. I have 1 rule about moving - just one. And it's thee cardinal rule when you're setting up a house. Always set up your bedroom first. Always. I make sure to set up the bedroom first & foremost - this way the rest of the house can be an absolute mess but then I can close the door behind me, breathe a sigh of relief and relax in my pretty new bedroom and sleep soundly. Only that isn't happening this time.
We slept in the guest room over the weekend (sans TV btw which was torture). The new mattress was delivered on Monday. The headache started once Sleepy's delivery men realized that the boxspring wasn't going to fit up the steps. We were told that we could have a low-profile boxspring for free or pay another $100 for a 2-piece boxspring. We chose the free option since we're broke. Of course they're out of stock & it won't be available for delivery until 12/16. They left the mattress and we have to wait for the boxspring. Whatever.
I didn't get too down about it because the bed was coming on Tuesday. Ahhh the bed. Once we realized that a sleigh bed wasn't going to fit in our bedroom, I discovered this beauty in all its cream colored velvet nail-trim glory:

We only ordered the headboard and ordered a bedframe to go with it so that the profile of the bed would be smaller & it would fit in the room better. Pshhh - HAH! The bed was delivered yesterday. The headboard is gorgeous - it's exactly what we want, but the frame? I'm not sure if it's the wrong frame for the headboard or what but it's messed up like you wouldn't believe. The delivery men from the furniture store had some trouble hooking up the headboard to the bedframe. I guess the first red flag should've been when he asked me for a drill right?? Once they were done, the frame looked crooked to me - both the delivery guys swore up & down they couldn't see anything crooked and the main dude was nice enough to take out a measuring tape and double check it for me, but it still didn't look right to me. You can barely tell in these pictures but the left side of the frame (which is of course my side of the bed) is crooked).
It's not just the angle of the picture - the left side of the frame is a little off. |
I asked the guys to just put the mattress on the frame to see how it fits and they did. The mattress fit fine into the other side of the frame, but on my side - it sticks out. And you know it's juuuust enough that I will end up ramming my shin into it every single day.
Looking back, I realize I should've told the guys to take it back but it was late, it was dark and I've been feeling overwhelmed & exhausted. Plus, there was nothing they could do to fix it anyway. I thought maybe it was just my mind being crazy - I'd let the Rockstar check it out once he got home from work. Once the delivery men left, I noticed something else. The headboard wasn't sitting on the floor. The legs are suspended about 3/4 of an inch off the ground.
Insane right? Also, once my Rockstar hubby got home, he realized that the bedframe is too short for the mattress itself. So another whammy. After some back & forth with customer service, a trip back to the same furniture store to chat with the salesperson and another call to customer service, I've decided to just return the bedframe an get one from Sleepy's. The salesman at the furniture store basically said we should just drill some more holes into the legs of the headboard to make the bedframe fit. We could order the whole bed, but it would be another $400 and that's not happening.
So what're we sleeping on you ask? Well there's no TV set up in the guest room (where there's a bed) but it is in the master bedroom (where there's not much to sleep on). So erm, I found some mis-matched sheets lying around & threw them on the mattress. Yep, we're sleeping on the mattress on the floor. Rockstar says he feels like he's in a Gangster movie - ya know, the ones where they sleep on a mattress on the floor in a safe house? Yeah. This picture just about sums up my life right now.
Oh & did I mention that they put the bed together with special Allen wrenches on the bolts, so we can't take it apart or move it? Doesn't this just look so comfy? Right outta the pages of Better Homes & Garden, I tell ya.
On a brighter note, I did manage to paint the interior of all those gross closets and they're all sparkly white. I let them dry overnight and they should be ready for me to put stuff into today (therefore eliminating some of those garbage bags - hah!) but the upstairs hallway kinda looks like this now:
I will admit there was a little help from Pinterest involved. Anyone recognize this pin?
Well I used that little trick on the interior of the pantry door. I put another coat on it this morning & it's still drying so I don't have an "after" yet.
That's about it from here. I'm off to tackle clearing out the Dining Room - somehow.
sorry for the crappy phone pics |
Oh & did I mention we're having company this weekend??? And that they'll be sleeping over???
oh my goodness! Sorry about all your trouble iwth the bedframe...we had the same problem with the boxspring! WE got a high profile and it wouldn't fit up our stairs, But it actually ended up working out for us because in the end, the low profile was much better for our bed anyway, so we just asked for the low profile instead. I know it seems so overwhelming now..but that's just how it is, you'll be settled in soon enough! And be thankful that one day you'll look back on this time as "remember when we had to sleep on a mattress on the floor??"
ReplyDeleteI hate the mess and disorganization of moving too. It makes me CRAZY! And the back and forth with your bed...oh my goodness. Enough to make me lose it even more. Eventually you will have the calm serene home you want....but apparently you will have to jump through some hurdles to get there. Hope everything gets straightened out soon.
ReplyDeleteI want to hug you. Moving is never as easy as it seems and I know you must be under so much stress right now! You're in my thoughts and I'll keep sending good juju your way sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! What a great feeling to be moved in and just need to unpack. Don't worry, that'll take you years. I think we still have boxes in our basement that we've never unpacked and we've been in our house for 5 years. And it takes years and years to get the whole place decorated too. Just when you get it to where you want it, it'll be time to move. :) Oh well, it's so much fun! Sorry I wasn't able to come over and help unpack. I bet with a drill and some wrenches I could have gotten that bed frame straightened out for you!
ReplyDeleteOH MY! LOL Well... dont' worry too much hun! You'll get it all sorted out... the first couple weeks in a new place are always chaotic. That bed is going to be gorgeous once they get it all fixed!!!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, girl. I wish I could just fly up there and help you with all of that, because it does sound overwhelming. BUT! BUT!! It's coming together. :) Sucks about that headboard, because it really is pretty! But yeah - kinda needs to fit. :/ Not cool on their part to try to get you to just accept it and then leave.
ReplyDeleteBreathe! Just remember to breathe! I'm curious to know if the "pin" worked or not. That's something to try if it did!!!
ReplyDeleteSO exciting!! Sorry the bed frame has proved to be difficult. Have fun with your friends coming in and don't worry...they will have a fabulous time regardless of if everything is finished.
ReplyDeleteoh goodness!! what a stressful time :-/ hang in there! I know this is a frustrating process but I'm sure we'll be reading about your comfy bed and sweet dreams any day now

Dancy...you've gone through some crazy stuff with that bed!!! Love the headboard!! fell in love with one at PB outlet kinda like that, but unless we rented a truck it wasn't going to make it home. That didn't happen :)
ReplyDeleteI asked my friend about her black table. She said it's a painted Queen Ann table that she had for several years.
